Field Trips

These outreach programs will provide opportunities for middle and high schools to participate in school field trips at Otronicon. Students will be able to take advantage of specialized sessions on the various areas of the games industry.

Designing the Levels of a Game (D)

The Imagination Lab & The Curiosity Lab

This session introduces participants to the middleware application Unity. This is the fastest growing middleware package on the market today, capable of deployment to the web and iPhone as well as in the standard format of a self-running executable. Rapid development with minimal experience and resource as well as flexible means of delivery are all key features of this product. This workshop will review basic elements, such as the internal physics engine and terrain builder, with a basic game will being the target result.

Take Away: Participants will take away an understanding of the Unity interface and basic functionality.

Creation of 3D Computer Generated Elements for Games (A)

The Inquiry Lab & The Creativity Lab

The workshop will present an overview of how the graphical elements in a game are created. Participants will have an opportunity to work with industry base tools for 3D modeling and animation. The workshop will lead participants to create basic polygon models laying the base more complex elements in a game.

Takeaway: Participants will come away with a base understanding of 3D elements are created for a game.
