Experiences Overview

OTRONICON brings together the entertaining world of consumer video games with a behind-the-scenes view of the art, technology and science that form the foundation and the future of both the videogame and simulation industries. Families and individuals of all ages will have a tremendous range of places and opportunities to explore.

For Families

Who said video games are just for kids? Live out your childhood dreams behind the wheel of a racing car or in the cockpit of a fighter jet in one of our state of the art simulators. Or crank up your favorite classic rock hits on a customized Rock Band stage. Oh, and don’t worry, there’s stuff for the kids too!

For Gamers

Are you good? Really good? Good enough to face off on some of your favorite games in person? At Otronicon, you can test your skills on more than 100 gaming stations in a variety of competition formats. This year’s highlight – Rock Band: Battle of the Bands competition.

For Educators

Otronicon offers interactive classes uniquely designed for middle and high school students to explore the world of gaming technology. Students can work with industry-based tools for 3D modeling, animation and game design.

Donated to the Orlando Science Center by Lockheed Martin

In 1929, Edward Albert Link created the first ever flight simulator when he created his Pilot Trainer (aka Blue Box). This simulator used a vacuum pump that operated the bellows in order to create the feel of a “pitch” and “roll” experienced during real flight. During World War II, the ANT-18 Basic Instrument Trainer, was used as the standard equipment at every air training school in the U.S. and Allied nations. The Blue Box has been designated as A Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

People from all walks of life - from serious gamers to the simply curious - are coming together to explore science, art, technology and careers, and to celebrate Otronicon’s fifth year at the Orlando Science Center. Not only is this an event where attendees can have fun playing new and classic video games, they can also learn about the latest in medical technology, simulation and digital media.

Orlando Chess & Games Center owner Alexander Zelner, a United States Chess Federation national master and life master, invites Otronicon guests to experience the "orginal simulation"

At Otronicon, you’ll find the latest in military simulators – high tech, state of the art machines that train the best of the best.  You can land on an aircraft carrier, fly an Apache helicopter or even test your skills at marksmanship.  But did you know that the first military simulator is centuries old?  And chances are, you’ve played one in your own living room. What could it be? None other than the game of… chess!
