Otronicon allows people from all walks of life to see the new and exciting things industries are doing or making now, inspires people to create and experiment with technology, and kindles new passions. With the large variety of industries, such as medical, military and gaming, which come out to exhibit, volunteers are essential to ensuring all of our guests have the best experience possible and we could not put on such a fantastic event without their help!
Last year approximately 350 people volunteered at Otronicon, and this year you could be one of them! Applications are open now and will remain open until full – spots fill up fast! If you have a passion for gaming and technology or love seeing and learning new things, then this is the place to be!
Otronicon volunteers not only have fun and learn about the exhibits first-hand, but they can also participate in the rest of Otronicon as a guest. Every volunteer receives complimentary access to Otronicon before or after their shift on the day(s) that they volunteer and also an Otronicon T-shirt while supplies last.
“Otronicon is a hodgepodge of technology, gaming and medical tech all in one building. There’s so much to do and it’s really fun. I can’t stop going!” said Chance Jones, Otronicon volunteer of six years.
Jones has been volunteering at Otronicon ever since he was 14 years old. He was hesitant at first because he thought volunteering was boring, but he quickly discovered otherwise and has been a passionate volunteer ever since.
“When volunteering, you learn so much more about the exhibits than someone passing by,” Jones said. “I could run the medical exhibit by myself now!”
Jones recalls a favorite moment when he was volunteering for the exhibit Visitor OR 01 in medical simulation city. He was in the back controlling a TV on a motorized puppet stationed at the front of the exhibit. His face and voice were broadcasted to the screen, but he decided to have fun and pretend to be a robot. The kids were successfully fooled until they saw him in the back room. To this day it is a cherished memory.
“At Otronicon there’s a lot to see and a lot to do! You could go the entire weekend and still have new things to do each day,” Jones said.
Take advantage of this awesome volunteer opportunity!
